Tackling AMR – A Cross Council Initiative

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), especially resistance to antibiotics, is a growing global problem. We are facing a rise in the number of bacteria becoming resistant to existing antibiotics without an increase in new antibiotics or new treatments. The Medical Research Council has been working with the seven UK research councils, along with other UK funders, in a cross-council initiative to develop collaborative approaches across research disciplines and to identify a number of research opportunities and challenges to tackle the rise in AMR. Click here to read more about this initiative.

As part of the Cross Council Initiative referred to above, the AMR Funders Forum has identified key themes to target current and future investments. The ARCH Study is being funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, working in partnership with the Department of Health and the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC), under Theme 4: Behaviour within and beyond the health care setting.
